Silicone keys: the ideal balance between firmness and softness
Compared with competing surfaces that are often too hard or too soft, at Intuitive Instruments we designed Exquis with keys that are firm enough for percussive playing, yet supple for MPE modulations (pressure, tilt).
Isomorphic note layout(s)
The Exquis controller gives you instant access to the rules of harmony so you can improvise with or without theoretical prerequisites. Simply choose a scale and follow its luminous path.
Playing chords has never been easier: notes that fit perfectly (thirds) are stacked on top of each other, with each chord type (major, minor, etc.) always having the same shape. Let harmony fall naturally under your fingers!
You can use other scales and note layouts (harmonic table, chromatic,…) and even create your own and store them in memory.
Arpeggiator (MPE)
Exquis features a built-in arpeggiator, letting you choose different speeds and patterns with a simple gesture. During an arpeggio, pressure on each key allows you to vary the notes’ velocity.
Freeze (MPE)
Hold notes, then click the 4th rotary encoder to freeze them, then add or remove notes at will (can be used in combination with the arpeggiator).
Expression/Sustain pedals (MIDI IN)
Connect pedals via MIDI IN (through a MIDI I/O interface) to use CC#64 (sustain), CC#11 (expression), CC#65 (portamento on/off), CC#67 (soft pedal)
Set MIDI CCs
In the Exquis app you can change the MIDI CCs sent by the Exquis keyboard’s buttons and rotary encoders; this lets you use a button as a sustain pedal or an encoder as an expression pedal.
